Xu Houze, male, Han nationality, is a native of Shexian, Anhui Province. He graduated from Tongji University in 1955 and later graduated from the Chinese Academy of Sciences Survey and Geophysics Institute in 1962. Xu is considered an expert on geodesy and geophysics.
As an academician, Xu studied modern external gravity field approximating theory. He then developed the high approximating high abnormity and unified approximating theory of plumb line deviation and truncation error estimation with limited conditions.
Xu is well-regarded in academic circles for his contributions to defining the new cross-field of geodesy and geophysics-dynamic geodesy for China. He has served as the dean of the Wuhan branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Xu was also a researcher for the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Geophysics and Survey.
In 1991, he was elected as an academician to the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
