Biography

Chen Yongling, male, Han nationality, is a native of Beijing and an expert on geodesy. He received his Ph.D. in 1939 in engineering from Berlin University of Science and Technology. He was consultant and professor at the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping of the China Science and Technology Committee and was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1980.

Chen has compiled books on geodesy, surveying and astronomy, has measured the height of Mt. Everest, and promoted adoption of the global positioning system in China.
