Biography

Chen Jiaer, male, Han nationality, is a native of Shanghai. He was born in 1934, joined the CPC in 1952 and graduated from Jilin University.

Chen spent over 30 years teaching and serving in the administration of Beijing University. He traveled as a visiting scholar to both and England and the United States. In 1993, he was elected to the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He became president of Beijing University in 1996 and director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 1999.

Chen was an alternate member of the 15th CPC Central Committee.
